Clan MacGillivray
Clan MacGillivray are a Highland clan, and a member of the historic Chattan Confederation. Although a "Clan Mhic Gillebrath" was noted as early as the 13th century, the first accurate recording of MacGillivray as a clan name was in 1549 - and then in 1609, when Malcolm MacGillivray of Dalcrombie and Duncan MacGillivray of Dunmaglass swore fealty to the Macintosh chief at a Chattan Confederation gathering.
Along with the rest of the Confederation, the MacGillivrays were staunch Jacobite supporters, and after the Battle of Culloden many emigrated to the United States and found success as traders.
The MacGillivray clan motto is "Touch not this cat" and the clan crest is a wildcat.
