Clan Leask

The earliest noted presence of clan Leask comes from 1296, in a document recording the name of William de Laskereske. As names were frequently spelled depending on how they were pronounced, the name as frequently been recorded as Lesk, Lask and Laysk as well as Leask.

The longest unbroken male line of Leask comes from a branch formed when a younger Leask son moved to Orkney to a court formed at Kirkwall Palace by the Earl.

The Leask clan motto is "Virtute cresco" (Grow by virtue) and the clan crest is a crescent moon.
