Clan Erskine
The name Erskine originates from the town in Renfrewshire, part of a barony owned by Henry of Erskine in the 13th century.
Related through marriage to Robert the Bruce, the family were staunch supporters of clan Bruce during the Scottish Wars of Independence. John Erskine, 4th Lord of Erskine, had charge of a young Mary Queen of Scots , and was responsible for conveying her to France in 1547.
The Erskine clan motto is "Je Pense Plus" (I Think More) and the clan crest is a hand holding up a skene, atop a cap.
