What meaning does the number or arrangement of lines have, if any? Unlike the halfcollared kingfisher, this bird has an orange-red beak (and claws) and is blue on the top of its head, with orange-russet on the lower part of the head. Like the halfcollared, it has a white throat and a white flash at the rear side of the neck. But where the halfcollared has light blue wing feathers with lighter spots, the malachite’s back is medium blue and the wing coverts darker blue. The underside of the wings is the same russet-orange as the belly.
Does it represent a group or event (business, club, wedding, etc.)? No answer given yet.
Is it associated with a locality (city, region, country etc.) This bird is found right across the eastern half of Southern Africa, as well as along the Cape Coast as far as St Helena Bay, along the Orange (Gariep) River to the sea, and in the Caprivi Strip, eastern and northern Botswana and the north-westernmost part of Namibia. However it is absent from Owambo.
How do you plan to use it (garments, furnishings, etc)? No answer given yet.
Do you expect to weave it, or produce it in other ways? Yes.
