Find exactly what you're looking for in the world's largest range of tartans. All stocks from every major weaver, or have any tartan affordably woven-to-order!
It's not surprising that tartan is still such a popular fabric - it's a direct link to a proud Scottish heritage and an easy way to show your connection to your family's Celtic roots. Of course you don't need to have Scottish roots to enjoy tartan - new tartans are being created all the time and you don't have to select your tartan by Clan name - simply choose the fabric you like by its pattern or major colours.
Our tartan finder will let you see the full range of choices for your chosen tartan - letting you choose your fabric by the shades and material to best suit the item you plan on making. Our wide range of tartans and fabrics ensures that you'll be able to marry your heritage with the best quality modern materials.
Our easy-to-use search engine also lets you narrow down the results by price, weight and material. So whether you're looking for silk or wool, you're sure to find exactly what you need, in the colours that you need it in.
Select the length of your fabric in either yards or metres, yards will be adjusted to the next 10cm (c. 4") up as you check out. The minimum order is 1 metre (= c. 1.1 yards) with 0.1m (c. 4") increments above that.
We supply the fabric to you as a single cut bolt and each fabric is described individually, including its width, linear weight, and material composition so that there are no surprises.
If you're looking to make something extra special we also supply woven to order tartans. As a matter of practicality, woven to order tartans have a minimum weaving length of four metres or 4.4 yards (5m for silks).
Materials:
Various, including wool, silk, and poly-mixes. Please allow up to an extra six weeks for delivery if you choose a woven to order material.

Weaving looms are almost always made in one of two widths: single width (about 30″ or 70cm) or double width (about 60″ or 1.4m). Single width of course costs about half the price of double width!
In most cases the width will not matter to you. Our systems are designed to price products using the correct length, whatever width a fabric is produced at. For an eight yard kilt in double width fabric, we order four yards!
But if you are buying fabric lengths, it is important that you note the width it is woven at, and adjust accordingly. Width information should be clearly displayed for each fabric.
If you wish to see only fabrics of a particular width (e.g. when making a long ladies skirt you might prefer to use a double width fabric) you can select this option in the Advanced Search area of our Tartan Finder. (This can be combined with other filters too.)
We try to make our site easy to use, even for a complex purchase like a kilt outfit. No membership is necessary. And we deliver worldwide.
The basic process is explained below. But if you find it hard for any reason, just contact us and we will be happy to either advise you or else place your order for you. (Calls from the UK or North America are free!)
We divide the buying process into two main stages:
1. Select products & Add to Basket
Find your product
Optional: specify fabric, sizes, etc.(Choose Options button, top right)

(Repeat, to add more items)

You will find much more help with how to navigate our site, how to choose products, about our customer services, and much more in our fully searchable Information Centre which is linked at the top of every page.
We offer an almost unlimited range of tartans and other fabrics in a huge choice of materials. Thousands are available from stock, and will normally be dispatched within about a week. Others need to be woven to order, which can take two months or longer, depending on factors such as the time of year or volume.
But please note that even fabrics we describe as ‘in stock’ may occasionally become unavailable at short notice. A single large order can take all remaining stocks for example. And a ’stock’ fabric that runs out of stock can sometimes take longer to be rewoven than one of our woven-to-order ranges, due to the larger weaving runs involved.
It is not technically possible to keep our web site information fully up to date for every fabric. Delivery schedules shown reflect their normal dispatch status, not their current availability. For the accurate, current stock status of any particular fabric, please phone or email us. We can often let you know within minutes, during working hours. If it happens to be unavailable we can often recommend alternatives.
We have three main ways of giving you extra information:
1. all around our site you’ll see little ‘info’ icons (like this: ) with help relevant to the place you see it; clicking one will normally pop up a help box, keeping you on the same page;
2. we have a large, fully searchable, Information Centre, linked at the top of every page, covering product advice, customer services, site navigation, and much more; try searching for the topic of your query (e.g. “returns”).
3. our customer service team is only an email or phone call away, and we even have toll-free lines from the UK and North America; so don’t hesitate to contact us, however trivial or complex your query.
Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
Ordered this fabric in the past so I knew exactly what I wanted. I had it made into a corset to match the husband's kilt. Can't wait to wear it to the local ren faire!

My kilt is in the ancient colors of our family tartan. For our wedding we wanted sashes for my wife and our daughters for a Pinning of the Tartan, but because of the varying sizes thought it better to make them here in the U.S. Scotweb had exactly what we were looking for and the tartan material matched perfectly and was cut to the right lengths. It made the wedding even better.

I was so pleased when I got my tartan, it is so beautiful! The customer service was absolutely fantastic. It was easy to get hold of someone when my order was delayed due to the mill changing the width of the tartan. I will be back to order more products from scotweb in the future.

I ordered 2 meters of the Scott weathered tartan, and couldn't be more pleased! The website was easy to navigate and search through, offering a tremendous selection of tartans. I especially liked that I could view pictures of almost all the tartans and that they were offered in several woolen weights. I did A LOT of research before choosing to order from Scotweb. I found they offered the best quality of tartan woolens from the finest Scottish weavers for the best prices of anyone, especially when the cost of shipping is factored in. So I was willing to wait for however long it might take to receive it. Imagine my delight when, after placing my order on Feb. 4th, it arrived at my house on Feb. 19th. Talk about fast! The wool is so fine and beautiful. I'm very happy to have such a quality piece of my Scottish heritage. Thank you Scotweb!

I'd like to say that this is a wonderful product. I really would. But I Ordered it on September 22 hoping for it to get here in time for Halloween. It's now December 16 and according to the site it still hasn't been shipped. I have e-mailed customer service concerning a substitution for the apparently out of stock material but have heard nothing back. Better luck to the rest of you. Caleb NW Fflorida, USA [Editor's Note: Stock fabrics are almost always dispatched within seven days. But as stocks can sell out overnight, and then take weeks or months to be rewoven, we do recommend ordering as early as possible to avoid disappointment. We do always make every effort to notify customers of any unexpected delay beyond the promised schedules and suggest substitutions where possible. We did so in this case, offering an immediate alternative, and the last response from this customer told us that he "would like to continue the current order of the cheaper material when available". We will be contacting him to clarify the apparent misunderstanding.]

The material is very satifactory as was the price. Unfortunately when ordering across seas you run into the Canadian Duty thieves who add an extra $100.00 (CAD). Overall I am very pleased with my order as it came in record time and now is in the process of becoming a beautiful Highland dancer's kilt for my daughter. Thanks so much! GR

The silk tartan matches the wool very well and is so much more pratical for our climate here in Texas. My wife is so pleased with the fabric and is looking forward to having a dress made to match my kilt. Thanks again.D.K.Brooks

I took a length of Ruthven Ancient, together with some history of the clan, to a friend in the USA. She was unaware that she was a member of the Gowerie family. She was delighted with the gift, and so she should have been as it was the most beautiful piece of tartan. The whole ordering experience was 'easy peasy' with excellent info regarding dispatching etc. Many thanks. AA
