Colour is such an important detail in any outfit and given the different colour displays of computers, colour accuracy is something that can't be guaranteed. To be sure that the colours you've ordered your kilt in (or any other item) are what you're expecting, we recommend that you purchase a swatch of the actual material. Select your tartan - and the swatch - from our huge range of tartans and suppliers.
The price of one swatch per garment can be deducted from any future purchase of a kilt or other tartan product priced at £100 (ex vat) or more. The size of the swatch will vary from mill to mill, but will always be enough to give you a good idea of what to expect.

Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
There is actually quite a few things to be said about this order. I will start with the order process itself. The Scotweb team was very helpful and forthcoming when I needed to have two swatch-orders combined as I recently moved to England and didn't want the shipment to arrive back home in Norway. Top job! Unfortunately, there were quite a few delays in the production of the final swatch, and here it would have been helpful if the order status had been updated more often than it was. At the longest, the order was one week over due before the status was updated with a new expected dispatch date. I did receive one e-mail from Scotweb concerning this delay, and they did upgrade the delivery method to Priority Next-Day without extra cost to me. Thank you for that! On to the swatches. I ordered two from "lochc" and one from "hedga", and as you can see from my photo, the size difference is quite substantial. The one from "hedga" being the smallest. The illustration photos on the website is a bit misleading, for as you can see on my photo, the swatches comes stapled to a sheet of paper rather than in the neat way they are portrayed online. Nevertheless, I would never second guess the decision to buy a swatch before purchasing a kilt online. The ability to see and feel how the fabric really is has unprecedented value!

Great swatches, a bit expensive tbh £26 for 2 swatches incl delivery BUT found the family tartan I wanted from them, better than the computer pic. shame you can't get the complete price of swatches back excluding postage but not to worry. just ordered my first full kilt outfit.

It was worth the money to see if this material was suitable for a dancer's kilt. It was and we are extremely happy to have ordered the full 7 yards at a great price. Thanks, GR

Decent sized samples provided to give you a reasonable idea of how the pattern will look. Some other companies I've used will give you cheaper samples but the sample sizes are too small. Would definitely advise using this service to make sure you know what you're ordering.

It's extremely helpful having a bit of tartan to see before ordering a kilt. This is pricier than other sites I have looked at, but I knew I was ordering a kilt from here and was going to get that money back, so I could justify it. It's a shame that I won't get credit for the other swatches I ordered. It would be helpful to possibly get smaller swatches of other shades available in the same tartan (for example, swatches from different mills). There seemed to be about 20 versions of my tartan to choose from. The size is decent, but for the amount paid I would have expected a bit more.

Very Helpful. Let's you see the real beauty of the tartan rather then just a computer image.
