This Casual or Sports kilt is expertly sewn to impress, but with a contemporary lower-waisted cut. Less weight makes this kilt the perfect choice for walking, sporting or social activities where the more substantial 8 yard kilt might be heavier than you wish.
On average this kilt uses 5 yards of fabric, though the exact length depends of your own measurements and your tartan's sett. The shallower pleats produce less 'swing' than a traditional kilt, but to most people's eye they are hard to tell apart.
We use the same top quality materials and expert skills that goes into our renowned 8 yard kilt. So you can be sure that there is nothing casual about the kiltmaking.
Materials:
Weight (12oz, 13oz, 16oz and 18oz) Worsted 100% Pure Wool. Please allow up to an extra six weeks for delivery if you choose a woven to order material.

Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.

Service was amazing as usual. The very friendly staff helped me decide on which pleating option to choose and I definitely have to agree now that it's here! It shipped out two weeks before I was quoted, and arrived in Texas in just a week even with economy shipping. So all told I got it much sooner than I'd expected! I chose a medium-weight tartan, so this is very light. While it is an excellent kilt, I wouldn't say that it's a replacement for a heavy-weight 8-yarder. But as a second kilt? Great choice :)

I'd like to say that I'm quite happy with the results of this order. While the shipment date was pushed back a few times, it was never drastic enough to make it an inconvenience. (ordered at the end of May, arrived at the beginning of July) Plus, when the kilt was actually shipped, it arrived immediately. That was an nice surprise, to say the least.

First I would tell anyone ordering to order in plenty of time. I ordered the whole casual kilt package (kilt, sporran, hose, shoes, gillie shirt, kilt pin, flashes, belt and belt buckle) The price was the best i found online, and all the commentary was great, so i ordered with little concern for trouble on the horizon. I ordered in mid march, was told it would arrive mid april, then the end of april, then the begining of may the the middle of may, then the end of may, then the begining of june. I must have bee told at least 10 times that the shippment date was set back. By then the jacobite shirt i had originally ordered had been discontinued and i had to pick a color I hadn't wanted (having wanted the natural over the white, so that it would match the hose) Finally they sent out the merchandise, but had forgotten to include the shirt with the first package, and i had to write to get this corrected. After all this i have all the merchandise and have no complaints about quality. The kilt is heavier than expected and seems to be very well made, the fit is perfect, and the kilt has a great swing to it. My boyfriend is so happy he could split. The jacobite shirts do seem to run a bit big, but all in all the product is well worth the money. Although i was put off many times as far as shipment dates, the customer service was always to the point, if not very friendly. Not a company i would use if you need your kilt in a hurry, but one i would use for quality for the price. [Editor's Note: delays are sometimes unavoidable, usually due to a specific tartan being re-woven at a mill - if you have an urgent deadline we will do our best to suggest alternatives, but please always order as early as possible to be safe.]

I recently received my 5 yard Balmoral Kilt and couldn't be happier. It took some time but a deadline was not important. "Good things come to those who wait". I have two "casual kilts" made here in the States that cannot hold a candle to the new kilt mentioned here. The quality is obvious just by looking at it. Upon closer inspection you can see the attention to detail and craftsmanship in how it is made. I haven't told my wife but within a week of receipt I ordered a traditional 8 yard kilt. Hopefully, she won't make me sleep on the porch,....for too long. I am sure once she sees it AND HOW GOOD I LOOK IN IT, she'll allow me back in the house.
