The classic semiformal Crail jacket in tweed, from the name you know you can trust. Impeccable Scottish tailoring from an internationally respected producer.
The semiformal Crail day/evening jacket is similar in most ways to the Argyll (or Argyle) jacket, but with plain cuffs for slightly less formality, making it more suitable for day wear. With a flattering cut, and genuine Scottish tailoring, the Crail jacket will look great on men of all shapes and sizes. Rest assured this isn't a budget import - Balmoral Kilts and Highland Dress is respected worldwide as one of the finest producers of specialist Scottish tailoring
How we make it:
Our Crail jackets are made from top quality 13oz 100% pure new wool tweed cloth, with a single button on the front, two side vents, cuffs with 3 buttons, pocket flaps with 3 buttons, and flat cloth epaulettes. All buttons have washer and ring fittings.
When to wear it:
A Crail outfit would often be seen at Scottish social events such as ceilidhs, Highland Games, or simply as general office or day wear when out and about. An outfit including the Crail jacket is also perfectly acceptable for guests at weddings.
What to wear it with:
When worn as part of a Highland Dress outfit, the Crail jacket would normally be accompanied by either a day or semi-dress sporran, together with a standard collar shirt and perhaps a bow tie, silver-grey tie or self-coloured tie. It will even look great with a Jacobite shirt. But like the Argyll, the Crail is very versatile and is not limited to use with a kilt. It can be worn with or without a vest (waistcoat) every day with trews or even ordinary trousers. It particularly suits a self-coloured or silver-grey tie, tartan tie, or cravat.
Your Choices:
We suggest bone as standard, but you can specify Silver Gilt or Antique Silver buttons if you prefer.

Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
Completed the look very nicely. Much better than the suit jacket I had originally been planning on using. Thick and warm with a perfectly complementary texture to the kilt.

Purchased as part of a full kilt outfit this jacket is well made and fitted well.
I put a fly Plaid with it to make it more formal for a wedding so you get two in one as it is great for less formal occasions when you just want to look smart in your kilt.
The garment is light and easy to wear.

I was a bit hesitant ordering a made-to-order jacket through the internet and from another continent no less. However, after receiving it yesterday and trying it on for the first time I was overjoyed at how well it fit. The quality of the fabric, syling, stitching, everything about the jacket is supurb. I would recommend this style and this maker to anyone.
