Cuchulainn: a great hero of Irish mythology, known as the Hound of Ulster. Originally named Setanta, he did not win his name Cuchulainn until he slew a ferocious huge hound at the age of seven with just his bare hands. The dog belonged to Culann, a wealthy smith, who was entertaining the King and was upset by its loss. Cuchulainn offered to take the dogs place and so gained his name which means 'the Hound of Culann).
