The Luckenbooth Earring - E177

Traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal, Luckenbooth symbols combining the heart and crown were also pinned to a child's shawl to ward off evil spirits. They are said to have first been sold from "locked booths" by St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh's Royal Mile in the 1600s or even earlier.
