Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
I really found Dr Fiddes’ e-book to be helpful; in this case after the fact! I am not fond of white or crème kilt hose, perhaps because they remind me of the embarrassing North American fashion of white gym socks, with big, ugly, gaudy white running shoes! I truly thought my family tartan would look much more exquisite with a nice dark lovat blue (and I was right)! How pleasantly surprised was I then to learn that the contemporary white stockings were developed as a throwaway, by kilt rental agencies! These hose have enough wool to look and feel authentic, and enough synthetic to be washable and to retain the shape. The foot sizing is generous, and the hose seem to stay up without problems. I would recommend that buyers spend the extra pound or two, to upgrade to a dark colour. The difference is worth it.

I have found that the legs and feet need a lot more attention than we often give them, with or without a kilt. These hose are a great value. While they are most attractive with the texture, they are not too bulky, provide good support for the calf and allow air to circulate and keep you comfortable.

What can you say about a pair of socks ..... well they are good quality, not too thick as to make you increase a shoe size to wear them and good value.

Good solid chunky hose with a very soft feel - the composition of the material isn't stated on the pack, but it feels less 'scratchy' than other big-brand-name hose I've purchased elsewhere. The fact that the manufacturer's packaging was wrapped in a further plastic bag for shipping was a nice touch by Kiltstore.
