Ordered 4 metres of 13 oz House of Edgar MacFadyen modern tartan. Took a bit because ScotWeb had to special order the fabric to be made at the mill. The colors are bright and beautiful and the sett is exactly as registered. Also, one full edge had the traditional selvedge. The customer service was great for this difficult order. ScotWeb is the best!!!

It was perfect. With this material I was able to continue a family tradition and bring hope my daughter from the hospital when she was born in a blanket I made of our tartan. I did this with my son before when he was born. If it’s good enough for my children its good enough for anything you may need.

I ordered both Black Watch and Oakleigh tartans in 11 oz poly viscose to make lightweight, hypoallergenic kilts, and, overall, was quite pleased with the fabric. While this material is not as easy to work with as heavy weight wool in my opinion, it does seem to hold a pleat sufficiently well, and the pleats swing freely. My only regret is that I didn't order more of the Oakleigh tartan as my wife and daughter both love it. I highly recommend this material for anyone who has sensitive skin, or who wants a lightweight, washable kilt, or other garment to knock about in.

We ordered a length of the James Hare (3oz Featherweight silk) in Gunn modern. Overall it is excellent value for the money. The fabric has a nice hand --and actually feels a bit heavier than other silks marketed as 3oz-- and an even weave. Sadly the Gunn modern has rather dark colors --a brighter tartan, or a tartan with more color contrast would probably really benefit from the lustre of the silk. Th fabric seems to be an excellent choice for trimming a summer hat or would probably work well with a lady's (formal) skirt. It is definitely the sort of silk that rustles when it moves. A good choice for certain types of dressmaking. (Probably a little too stiff for any kind of A-LIne pattern however.) All in all, good quality. Wish more choices were available.

Excellent fabric (Marton Mills, Isle of Skye Tartan, 16oz Jura Range). I have both a kilt and a piper's plaid in this fabric. While it is slightly more coarse than some of the other tartan fabrics I've seen, it's not nearly as coarse as some other 16oz tartan fabrics that I've come across. Vibrant colors and definitely a good heavy kilting material.

Great, tight, heavy weight fabric! A much tighter weave than the last product i received from another source. I'm really looking forward to hand sewing this fabric into a kilt! I will definitely order more as I need to build kilts for my two boys who are in university in Scotland.

A beautiful fabric in the colors of my mother’s family/clan the Russell’s. I visited the Edinburgh Woolen Mill while on holiday in 1997 and fell in love with what I found there. 14 years later I am now the proud owner of a Great Kilt in the Russell Ancient colors. I look forward to the time when I can purchase a hand-sewed kilt with all the trimmings.

Wonderful tartan springweight fabric. I will order an additional amount of a different fabric. It was so effortless to research the fabric by name and colour, to view the various designs and weights, and to receive the order so efficiently. I am told by my tailor that the fabric will be easy to work. Thank you very much.
