About

This is the kilt on which I stake my reputation. We've distilled decades of unrivaled expertise and single-minded refinement into a kilt of outstanding quality in every detail. And now we offer you this flagship product at a jaw-dropping price. How good is it? It's the kilt I usually wear myself. What more could I say?
Dr Nick Fiddes, Founder

The World's Finest Kilt

You simply won't find a more expertly tailored kilt. It's not just us who says so - read the Reviews (above). So how can we offer such an exquisite garment at market-beating prices, when others can ask twice the price or more for any kilt nearly comparable?

Balmoral Expertise

Balmoral of Scotland is renowned for superb tailoring. But the expertise doesn't stop there. We've fine-tuned every step of the kiltmaking process over many years to achieve peerless quality in every detail, all with the minimum of fuss. Our exclusive tartan pleating method guarantees precise folds for your chosen plaid, rapidly and reliably. Our special heavy-duty steam press forms kilt pleats so durable you'll be amazed - and fast. All materials are hand-selected, and we've heard our attention to detail called obsessive. The result is a truly great kilt, every time.

Scotweb Efficiency

Ours was the first firm to market kilts online (in 1995) so you benefit from unrivalled experience. We've designed our site to glide you through your kilt selection, simply and enjoyably. In fact many customers order online with few extra questions. That means our fully-trained customer service team has lots of time to give personal help in any way you do need. We professionally check every order, and contact you if we spot any queries. Then our streamlined office sytems ensure your order goes to plan. The result is real "family business" service we're proud to call Scottish... without the overheads.

Your Heirloom KIlt

Every kilt is hand-stitched, with precise machine stitching used in invisible but time-consuming areas for the finest results. For a perfect hang, we fit two sturdy leather straps and buckles on the waist, and one on the hip. The front edge has two fringes in the authentic tradition, and we add two near-invisible belt loops at the back to keep it all neat. We normally pleat 'to sett' as most kilt wearers prefer, but you can ask for pleating to stripe or to horizontal (at no extra charge) or military box pleats are optional. Whatever your choices, you'll enjoy wearing a kilt to impress even the most demanding expert.

Instant charisma

The full eight yards means crisp deep pleats, for that real kilt swing as you move. But the truly impressive thing comes from inside. It's the pride of wearing your tradition. And knowing that in your choice of kilt, you've done the tradition proud.

I need more advice - how can I get help?

We have three main ways of giving you extra information:

1. all around our site you’ll see little ‘info’ icons (like this: Scotweb information icon ) with help relevant to the place you see it; clicking one will normally pop up a help box, keeping you on the same page;

2. we have a large, fully searchable, Information Centre, linked at the top of every page, covering product advice, customer services, site navigation, and much more; try searching for the topic of your query (e.g. “returns”).

3. our customer service team is only an email or phone call away, and we even have toll-free lines from the UK and North America; so don’t hesitate to contact us, however trivial or complex your query.

Where can I find more in-depth information about kilts & tartans?

Kilts and Tartan Made EasyScotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.

As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.

Wrote... Great product, especially for the price. I ordered mine in the Lindsay Ancient tartan, and am very pleased both with the fabric, and the attention to detail in the kilt.

Wrote... An amazing product, well finished, every attention to detail has been paid. Stitching is beautiful and well finished, a very high quality garment that will not disappoint anyone that orders.....in fact I'm buying several more!!! Buckles and straps are very solid, kilt belt loops are strong and blend perfectly with the rest of the kilt, front apron is very well finished on the end with slight fringing at the very edge to add that extra attention to detail. Ordered mine in the MacDonald Ancient in material from Lochcarron and the colours are just amazing. Knife pleats are well defined and very very deep giving the kilt a beautiful swing just walking, let alone dancing!! Wore it for the first time to a wedding and received compliments all night long Don't hesitate, this is the perfect purchase if you are in the market for a beautifully finished kilt and the most reasonably priced kilt I have seen too...its amazing, you could easily pay two to three times the price elsewhere.

Wrote... Having purchased a tweed Argyll jacket in Lovett Blue tweed, a friend suggested I consider a tweed kilt as an alternative to tartan. The Cairngorme Overcheck Twill Blue seemed the ideal companion and I am delighted that this has proved spot on. The measurements are perfect and equate exactly to my order (a somewhat rare aspect in mail order). As a heavy-weight kilt, the fit and swing are excellent and the manufacture first class. The weather may now be getting too hot for tweed but this kilt/outfit will be perfect as an alternative to tartan for years to come. As an aside, for reasons beyond Scotweb's control delivery was delayed by several weeks. Nevertheless, the company's regular updates were very professional and good customer service.
