About

This fine quality Scottish-made luxury sgian dubh will complement the finest of kilt outfits, resplendent with your own clan crest. With a stainless steel blade that you can sharpen if your local laws allow, it comes in its own leather safety sheath which is also finished in solid steel. The detailing is simply magnificent, down to the rich red recessed mount for the blade, and the leather lined sleeve in the sheath to dust your blade each time it is replaced. A choice of colours for the composite stones means you can accessorise to match any tartan.

The sgian dubh will arrive in its own high quality leatherette presentation case with satin lining, making this a superb gift, or ready for safe-keeping within your highlandwear wardrobe. Approved Manufacturer of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs In Scotland's turbulent past it was the custom for Clan Chiefs to give their followers a metal plate of their crest, to be worn as a badge of allegiance which fastened to their clothing with a strap and buckle. When not in use the belt was coiled around the crest and this convention is used in the clan crest badges of today. Only a Clan Chief may wear the crest without the strap and buckle.

These superbly detailed clan crest designs are approved by the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, as authentic representations taken from the arms of the Chief of the Clans. Every Clan Chief or family head has a Coat of Arms granted by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, which is listed in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland. The Register, established in 1592 and kept in the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh, is acknowledged as being the most magnificent heraldic manuscript in Scotland.

I need more advice - how can I get help?

We have three main ways of giving you extra information:

1. all around our site you’ll see little ‘info’ icons (like this: Scotweb information icon ) with help relevant to the place you see it; clicking one will normally pop up a help box, keeping you on the same page;

2. we have a large, fully searchable, Information Centre, linked at the top of every page, covering product advice, customer services, site navigation, and much more; try searching for the topic of your query (e.g. “returns”).

3. our customer service team is only an email or phone call away, and we even have toll-free lines from the UK and North America; so don’t hesitate to contact us, however trivial or complex your query.

Where can I find more in-depth information about kilts & tartans?

Kilts and Tartan Made EasyScotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.

As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
