About

Please remember that unless you buy from stock this will actually be knitted for you to order, by one of our local ladies, so the delivery schedule may occasionally be affected by personal circumstances.
Dr Nick Fiddes, Founder

Luxury hand-knitted men's aran kilt hose from 100% pure new wool. We LOVE these! You just don't find the quality of our Traditional Hand Knitters woollens nowadays , even at twice our price. Made the old way on needles by our skilled makers in their homes, to ancient patterns, your knitter's name is hand-written on its label! We use only excellent materials, so it won't wear through in months as cheap garments can. The strong thick wool will keep you and your loved ones safe and warm in the most severe weather, and will be a lasting favourite for years. These really are 'like your granny used to knit you'. Fantastic value. Have we said enough?

We have three main ways of giving you extra information:

1. all around our site you’ll see little ‘info’ icons (like this: Scotweb information icon ) with help relevant to the place you see it; clicking one will normally pop up a help box, keeping you on the same page;

2. we have a large, fully searchable, Information Centre, linked at the top of every page, covering product advice, customer services, site navigation, and much more; try searching for the topic of your query (e.g. “returns”).

3. our customer service team is only an email or phone call away, and we even have toll-free lines from the UK and North America; so don’t hesitate to contact us, however trivial or complex your query.

Where can I find more in-depth information about kilts & tartans?

Kilts and Tartan Made EasyScotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.

As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.

Wrote... I just received the new hand knitted hose and they are beautiful. Mrs Laidlaw from Selkirk made a beautiful job of these, they fit and feel great, not a flaw in the needlework anywhere. I am a firm believer in having something hand made, it may sound strange but its a very personal thing, these hose were made for ME, they will be treasured as something very personal for years to come, infinately more so than a mass produced machine made pair. (Please pass my thanks on to Mrs Laidlaw for her wonderful craftsmanship.

Wrote... These hose are absolutely superb! They are thick, warm and has a wonderful fit. Also, the design of the knitting truly gives an extra punch to them. When you receive your hose, they are equipped with a note telling you the name of the lady who has knitted them and also the town of her residence. This makes for a truly personalized item that will be cherished for years to come. Mine are in the color Woodland Haze, for your reference. Be aware, though, when you order this item. At the point of my purchase, the order system did not allow me to enter all the necessary information regarding the hose size. I entered this in the note to the Scotweb team, and I got just what I ordered. A perfect fit! Bought as part of a complete outfit which was delivered a full ten days before the initial expected dispatch date.

Wrote... When I ordered these kilt hose I prepared myself for a wait, since they are hand made. This is my third pair and , as before, the wait was well worth it. In fact, I was pleased to see that Mrs. MacKenzie, who had knitted one of my other pair, is still alive and kicking (if you order these you will see that each pair of hose is signed by the knitter,...showing it's authenticity as a hand knitted item). Once you order & receive this item, you are not going to want to wear anything else. Sure, you may want some regular kilt hose for those unimportant, "knock-around-in my-casual-kilt" days, but these kilt hose can transform even a casual kilt into something that makes you look even better. Whenever I've worn them I've always had complimentary comments addressed to me,....by men, as well as women. The cable stitching adds something to the line of the leg. I'm not ashamed to admit it: It makes me feel good when people stare, and those brave enough to ask "WOW!! Where did you get those??? Those are really nice." That's when I go into my little "hand knitted,....SCOTSWEB,.....expensive but worth every penny" speech. Just remember to "hand wash" (I use WOOL LITE), wring the water out GENTLY & dry flat (I use a sweater dryer, but I guess you can hang dry them). If you take care of them they WILL last for years. So,....what are you waiting for???? ORDER THEM!!! You won't be sorry.
