About

Scotweb has produced many thousands of kilts over the years, employing specialist kiltmakers all over Scotland. And in all that time, the finest hand-stitching it has ever been my privilege to examine has come from the expert seamstresses of D.C. Dalgliesh. Simply wonderful.
Dr Nick Fiddes, Founder

In their historic premises nestled by the Tweed river in the Borders of Scotland, the highly experienced seamstresses at the famous D.C. Dalgliesh tartan weaving mill - the world's last artisan tartan weavers - produce a kilt of true traditional quality. This kiltmaking service can source tartans from any quality mill, but will especially complement the wonderful artisan tartans woven in the same building. Your kilt will justly honour the unique and exclusive tartans for which this company is famed worldwide, with clients that include the Queen, Nelson Mandela, and Neil Armstrong!

Due to the tiny production volumes, few people in the world can enjoy the pleasure of owning and wearing a genuine D.C. Dalgliesh kilt. Your gorgeous artisan-woven fabric will be finished by hand, cut by hand, pleated by hand, sewn by hand, and pressed by hand - all with extraordinary attention to detail every step of the way. In short, D.C. Dalgliesh produce simply the finest hand-sewn kilts we've ever seen.

Unless you specify otherwise, you kilt will come with two sturdy leather straps and buckles on the waist, and another on the hip, to ensure your kilt hangs perfectly. The front edge has two fringes in the authentic tradition, and we add two near-invisible belt loops at the back to keep it all neat. We normally pleat 'to sett' as most kilt wearers prefer, but you can ask for pleating to stripe or to horizontal (at no extra charge) or military box pleats are optional. And your kilt will be sent fully basted, to ensure the crispest pleating on arrival.

The D.C. Dalgliesh traditional artisan hand-sewn kilt is a truly exceptional garment, painstakingly stitched to the same exacting quality standards as the tartans for which this superb company is globally rewowned.

Where can I find more in-depth information about kilts & tartans?

Kilts and Tartan Made EasyScotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.

As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
