Founder
It's hard to imagine the feeling of putting on a Manley Richardson kilt, until you do. The experience is a bit like driving a custom-built Bentley... something you've waited all your life to enjoy. I can't commend these superb kilts highly enough.
Manley Richardson tailors exquisitely made to measure garments, with incomparable attention to detail. Be guided by the founder's recommended specification, in the certainty of utter satisfaction. Or request your own detailed design. Our expert tailors delight in producing individual garments to your most exacting demands.
Fabrics
Your kilt will be fully hand-stitched from around eight yards of pure new wool fabric (or other materials on request) from only the finest Scottish mills. Thousands of traditional tartans can be supplied, or you can even create your own design.
Pleating
Most customers prefer conventional rear pleating 'to the sett'. But if you prefer your kilt pleated to stripe, to horizontal, or perhaps box pleating or some other special arrangement, just ask. There's no extra charge.
Fringes
The front edge of the Manley Richardson kilt apron normally has two fringes. But if you prefer a single fringe, three fringes, or even four, our tailors will happily comply.
Lining
The garment's normal specification includes a finely embroidered monogram kilt lining, in addition to a robust canvas waist lining. But if you would prefer to choose your own lining colour, we will strive to find a close match.
Straps
We normally fit two leather straps on the waist, and one on the hip. Each strap is made from premium grade leather in a choice of colours to suit the material, and each is subtly embossed with the Manley Richardson monogram. But if you prefer plain straps, or a leather tone of your own choice, just ask.
Buckles
As standard we offer a no-cost choice of a stylish modern pewter buckle, or one in a more traditional style. But you may prefer to select from a range of alternative finishes, such as silver or gold plated metalwork.
Belt Loops
Two belt (or sporran strap) loops constructed from your chosen tartan are stoutly sewn to the rear as standard, carefully tartan-matched to near-invisibility. But if you'd prefer more, fewer, or none, just say.
Flashes
We include complementary hose flashes in your kilt tartan, which are normally each cut with a double point. But if you would prefer your flashes in a plain colour of your choice, or square cut, or perhaps garter ties instead, there's no other charge.
Basting
Due to our tailor's custom pleating process, we normally add no basting stitching for transport, to avoid unnecessary inconvenience on arrival. But if you prefer basting, just specify... even how many rows you would like.
Every Manley Richardson kilt is fully hand-stitched as standard by the world's most expert kiltmakers. A kilt is a lifetime's investment. So treat yourself to the finest kilt on earth!
Scotweb is proud to be sole online agents for Manley Richardson.

As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.

Just received my "New Hampshire" Manley Richardson kilt, it fit perfectly and the color is spot on. This is my second kilt; my first kilt was purchased at a Highland games festival. It looked nice but was very light weight and cheaply made. So two years later I decided to replace it with a traditional handmade kilt. As soon as I opened up the box and felt the new kilt I knew I made the right choice in purchasing a Manley Richardson Kilt. I am sure I will be wearing it for decades to come. Mike Rowse , Dubai

I love the new kilt, the Manley Richardson detailing and quality are well worth paying the extra, the quality is exceptional. I already have Cornish National and a Cornish Hunting kilts, but black being the 'original' colour for a Cornish kilt this will finish off my collection nicely. Paul Cooper , Midlands UK

Took a wee bit longer than thought, but then i did have it fully hand stiched. But got it in time for my wedding and i was very pleased with the outcome. fitted perfectly, looks superb on also love the MR details. I do have a small problem with the buckle though, i had the contemporary silver buckes and found when i wore it for a Burns supper the locking clip seems to be damaged, I have wore this kilt about 10 times over the past 7 months and hope the aftersales are as good as the other items i have bought. I highly recommend Manly Richardson for your outfitting needs. Stan , TN

It was a long wait.......but well worth it. The kilt is a construction masterpiece. Extremely well made. The buckles and leather straps are the best I've ever seen. Fits perfectly. eSKe , Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium

This looks even better in real life!!! Having chosen a kilt outfit for our wedding, I almost upstaged my wife. Not a thing you want to do at 'her' wedding. But still, it says enough about the kilt ;) Richard Krehbiel , British Columbia, CA

I purchased this item in 2005 and it has become my kilt of choice. I've taken it on international trips and it travels well. It is versatile enough to wear with Jacobite regalia for fun, or with the Crail outfit for business. In this case, you get what you pay for! Tony St Quintin , Leeds, West Yorkshire
