If the name you have searched for does not appear anywhere in our database, and there is no name with just a letter or two different, we will list the closest matches that do appear in our lists. This may sometimes help if your name is related but spelled quite differently.

It is important to remember that the same surname can sometimes have a huge variety of historical spellings. Yet they all belong to the same family. So in most cases you shouldn’t be concerned if the spelling we use to list a tartan is not exactly the same as your branch of the family. If it sounds much the same when pronounced, it is often the same family!

If in doubt, just ask our customer service team. A computer database can never be complete, and they are expertly trained to advise you about tartans that you might consider if none exists for your surname.
