What materials can my Kilt be made from?
Traditionally a kilt is made only of 100% pure new wool, usually in tartan. In our Tartan Finder we offer by far the world’s largest choice of tartans, and you can even design your own tartan.
But any kilt, and especially the less formal Casual Kilt, can be made in a variety of fabrics. The most popular alternative fabrics are plain colours, including saffron and green which are both Irish traditions, and also the plain black kilt which is highly fashionable. Another very popular style is tweed.
We also offer a range of top quality denims, plain wools, and plain or printed cotton materials such as camouflage for example. For more unusual effect almost any material with suitable characteristics (e.g. that can be made to hold the pleat creases) can be used, such as our renowned leather kilts.
Many of these fabrics can be found as ready-to-order products in our Kilt Chooser. But if you don’t find what you want there, please enquire as we can almost certainly help.
