Help and Advice

You will find context-relevant help and advice throughout the Scotweb Tartan Designer. Click on any small blue ‘info’ icon, and/or links to ‘More…’ advice, which you will find beside most areas of the site. This will normally pop up an advice screen while keeping you on the same page.

If you prefer to read through our Tartan Designer briefing notes fully, you may find it easier to navigate from our Information Centre and explore the advice section by section. You can also search the Information Centre for advice on particular questions.

And we can also provide an Expert Tartan Design Review, from the facility built in to the site. We strongly recommend that you commission such a critique if you intend to have your tartan design actually woven, and particularly if you intend your design to be recorded in the official Scottish Register of Tartans. A world-leading tartan authority of your choice will review your design and suggest possible improvements in view of aesthetic experience, tartan traditions, and weaving technology. There is a fee for this service which is non-refundable even if no improvement is suggested.

Our customer service team is also available to provide help with questions regarding fabric or product production only. However, please note that they are regretfully not able to advise on tartan designs, and such questions will either be directed towards our Expert Tartan Design Review service, or else towards this online advice. So please check here carefully first.
