First, click or drag colours from any of the three palettes in the ‘Choose’ panel, to put them into your Use shelf. Each palette is ideal for different needs: the Simple Palette; the Weavers’ Palette; or the Professional Palette. Pro colours will incur a significant surcharge. Our Professional Palette is more flexible than either the Simple or the Weavers’ Palettes. There is no restriction on the number of colours you can include in a design using the ‘Pro’ Palette. And there is a full-spectrum colour picker, enabling you to include any shade of your choice. Our Weaver’s Palette is based on actual photographs of a range of around 100 pre-dyed yarns which are normally held in stock by our weavers. Tartans are traditionally recorded only as broad colour descriptions rather than exact shades. So we recommend using the simple colour palette if you are designing a tartan with a view to official recording.
